About Us

WSKF Karate Academy Skerries was founded by Tom McMahon and Jerry Ahern. Initially the club operated out of both the Community Centre and the Rugby Club in Skerries, County Dublin.

1998 saw the club affiliate to WSKF Ireland with a direct link to World Shotokan Karate Federation Japan. Its instructors are Tom McMahon, Sam Wheeldon and Deirdre Tapley.

From 2008 we were been based solely in the Little Theatre, Community Centre, Skerries and currently have approximately 50 members attending classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The Skerries club has enjoyed enormous medal success both Nationally and Internationally in individual and team events.

We accept new students at most times of the year. Come on down and we'll give you a warm welcome. You can sit in and see what goes on or join in straight away! All you need to start is bare feet, loose trousers and a give it a go attitude. And the most important thing, your first class is always FREE!!!

At WSKF Skerries we have students of all ages. Studies show that a child is more likely to keep practicing a sport if they start after the age of 7. However, we have had some students as young as 5, one of whom is now one of our instructors. If your child is younger than 5, give us a call or send us a message and we can discuss your requirements. Karate in Skerries is for everyone!

We run our club for love not money and for that reason we can keep our fees lower than most. You can pay monthly or by term and we have discounts for families. Check out our fees section to see what suits.

We're in Skerries Community Center at the heart of Skerries town. You can find us in the big Room 1 in the Little Theatre building on Saturdays and Mondays and in the dance studio (main building) on Wednesdays. See you there!
